the news from lake woebe...airy?

Oh hello Japan. We miss you. Kiernan and Erena must think phones are so strange. We don't even have a house phone. They are both accomplished Skype users though.

2nd bed begun and done! Dad tore through this bed. The plants all went in plus a decorative piece of wood and even the rock border is now done.

All of the flowers are butterfly and bee magnates (intentionally so) Kiernan is getting a jump on our full butterfly garden by helping all caterpillars he can find make it to trees. He has also been transferring worms fast and furious to the new fruit trees.
I am getting a lot of : "MOMMM Find me a worm, I need a worm. A BIG one!".

We have a great little visitor. This sweet baffled kitten is for Aunt Licia (and its her birthday too!) but she is from a friend at my work so we have taken custody of her until we can make it down to Scearces'. Megan is not ready for a cat. She is so excited she just screams and flails and tries to hold the kitten. Megan is not allowed near the kitten with out an adult.
Kiernan is weirdly ready for a kitten. This is some personality and some age. He is calm, he is playful, he ignores the kitten and lays on the sofa near her when she naps. He helped me this morning set up the food and water and litter box. He was very into this.
He created this awesome cat toy with a little help.

I haven't had cats since college. David and I are both allergic to one degree or another but we both love cats. During the kids nap instead of sleeping as I really really wanted to do, I played with the kitten.
I am calling her Gris, that is almost definitely not her name but it helps me talk to her.

We had a good time.
We were both a bit sleepy, can you tell?

Kiernan is walking around with pink hair and red toenails this week. His hair was red but it has faded and tonight he is getting a good scrub before church. I know that I need to start modifying his behavior so he doesn't get mocked by his peers but i love how much he enjoys so many things. He is so relatively unshaped by normal cultural expectation. He loves flowers and pink things and fairies and he loves destroying everything and star wars and video games. He is really very gentle and responsible for a 4 year old I really fear that being around other kids is going to ruin him.
He will shun girly things not because he doesn't like them or he will not shun them and instead be a laughingstock.
School starts on Aug 19 for me and maybe for him too. We are still waiting to hear from the Pre-K in our neighborhood about whether or not they have space for him. we should hear in a few weeks at the most.

My big kid achievement this weekend (kitten experiment notwithstanding) was  Popsicle making. When we moved I lost 2 of my 4 Popsicle sticks so I had been looking out for a good new set. I was reading Slate and hit a frozen mango-lassi-sicle.
My dad is a mango fanatic and several times when he came up to do yard work he brought whole cases of great mangoes. David makes delicious lassis but we had never frozen them before.  We wound up using star shaped jello-molds for lassi-pops but I really wanted the molds they were using in that slate piece.
Unfortunately they stopped making them in 2006 but I did find the current version.
Behold our new rocket pops.

They have flames as the holders and an astronaut to reveal as you work your way through the rocket itself.

They also have individual stands which is lovely if you are taking them out of the freezer ever 2 hours as my kids seem to need to do. We made lemonade and cherry limeade and strawberry kiwi. The kids loved them.

My step-grandfather is in the hospital. He is having all sorts of problems. Please keep him in your prayers if you have them.

On Saturday I finally got Kiernan back to church. He looked awesome in his new suit. Megan kept to trying to kiss him and he kept trying to pick her up. They were adorable but neither really succeed in their goal. She pretty much bit his nose and he pretty much got her to her toes but they were happy and laughing and that was the best part of Saturday.

Saturday was a hard day for all of us. Megan was super clingy and Kiernan was belligerent and disobedient (both of those moods are normally absent in him) I was exhausted. I am not sure why they were both so wound up. I know all kids have rough days and I am sure they set each other off a bit.
We dropped off the kitten and celebrated Aunt Licia's birthday.

Sunday dawned wet and gray and full of happy obedient funny kids.
We made our usual pancake breakfast and Megan had the peanut butter.

Gooey mess!
Megan is a wild girl. Except for the clingy-ness she is the boldest most fearless child I have ever met. She is always smiling and she is rough to control. She is into everything and she knows no caution. She bounces back readily from her many falls and her passing out spells are almost gone. I love this girl so much. She loves to give kisses and only half the time do they end up as headbutting jokes.

We went to visit the kitten and visited Uncle Chris and Aunt Pammy and we had long naps.
We got more rain and the new gardens are grateful for it.

This week the kids will pick blueberries and go to the library and enjoy their routine with Nana.
