Some pictures from my work walks this week tell me a few things. It has been wet and it has been pretty.
I took the kids to the park to work on their algae fishing.
There have been a great many cool mushrooms all around the neighborhood but I thought these were particularly pretty.
On Friday we went to Scearce's and found a tiny frog.
He loved Megan and she loved him right back. There is a frog kissing joke here somewhere.
The kids were so happy to be there and to see Grandma and Grandpa Scearce.
Friday evening saw a great Soccer practice. It was keep away and then musical chairs and then sharks and minnows all with a soccer ball or 5. All of these games really encouraged the kids to get into each others space. Kiernan is particularly reluctant to do that and the games were, I think, particularly useful for him. The best part is that all the kids were laughing it up for the full hour.
Great practice LLOUYAA!
On Saturday we did some house maintenance and I worked on the blackberry/raspberry patch. I pruned and retied up the year old canes. I made clear walking paths between the rows and everything is now ready for next years delicious berries.
We took a break right before lunch to grab some pumpkins for Jack o'Lantern carving.
The kids are so grossed out by the pumpkin guts. It is a little pitiful and a little hilarious how wimpy they are about getting their hands goopy. I don't understand how mud can be fine but pumpkin innards are so off putting.
Here is Megan's happy pumpkin.
I roasted some seeds and planted some seeds for next year.
We Now have a properly Halloweeny front door.
On Sunday morning despite the cold we donned our costumes and headed out for the Renaissance Fair.
Megan rode a pony and Kiernan scaled the castle wall.
We saw people with beautiful costumes and went home far too soon.
I think that next year we will try to get a sitter and go once without the kids.
We basically ran from one thing to the next then stuffed the kids with odd fried things...mac n cheese on a stick anyone?
Trying to fit everything in and get Megan back in time for naps left zero minutes for me to browse costume shops or for any shows. One of my favorite things at the Renaissance Fair is the music and we heard it only in passing this time.
The kids had a great time. Megan was particularly pleased with the princess like costuming all around. Kiernan got too cold and didn't wear his costume this time. Putting that boy in a kilt for a 50 degree windy morning was out of the question.
After we got home I took off for a fun evening with Grandma Mary at Spa world. David took care of the kids and guarded the home fires.
