This week saw the one color day that we didn't have. It was purple day. pale blonds shouldn't wear purple. I think I knew that instinctively. I ran out to Walmart an hour before School started and grabbed a 2 dollar V-neck that he actually likes fairly well.
This is Kiernan on the last day of his private transportation schedule. Starting Wednesday he took the bus home from school.
Purple day was Tuesday. Tuesday was also Flumist day. I rushed home from work and drove us down to Germantown. Kiernan's first experience with flu vaccination (and mine too for that matter) was a little surreal. When we got to his pediatricians office there was a line for the building entrance and another to get on the elevator. The 2nd floor elevator lobby had tables and staff to prepare us for the line in the doctors office, all this a 5 pm. They breezed us right in and out and apparently the Flumist doesn't small like anything and doesn't hurt and it all seemed smooth.
I thought my gamble on the painless but live set of virus' in the Flumist vs. the already dead but more painful flu shot had paid off.
Kiernan has been sick on and off since school started and he has been handing it off that gift of education to all of us.
Immature immune systems for the lose!
As we were in Germantown anyway we stopped by to see daddy at work.
The next day I got my own flu shot.
I have never had a flu shot before and frankly after all the medical adventures last year I wasn't especially anxious to add a new procedure to my life. I was very anxious about side-effects, but i felt it was only fair to get vaccinated this year as I am insisting that the kids do so.
It was fine. My arm ached for a few hours and I had a slight headache but nothing worse than that.
Kiernan had a very smooth first day going home on the school bus.
Martin came over so that we could do an Ikea run and the kids traced us and each other all over the drive.
This proves that Germans can be very good sports and also that our driveway converts to a grizzly crime scene quite easily.
The next day Megan went to Gaver Farm to play around.
Kiernan got home sick and barfing.
We hoped that the bus had given him carsickness.
Unfortunately the next morning he was still sick. We spent all Friday cuddled up on the couch watching Youtube Gorillaz (this playlists). I went to work in the evening and Kiernan fell to sleep on the floor in the middle of the living room.
On Saturday he seemed better. He said he wanted to go to soccer.
It was windy and cold.
We went home and took it easy again for the rest of the day. By Saturday evening mom was coughing too. I think the thing we have all been battling for so long finally got her too.
David did some painting and I cleaned up the linen closet and did some laundry.
On Sunday morning he was back to himself.
Our original plan for this weekend had included going to Uncle Chris and Aunt Pammy's anniversary party and going to the Renaissance fair.
We did neither.
We went to the park and we played Virtua Fighter 5 and I did some serious Need for Speed playing.
Megan climbed and was obnoxious and charming.
We saw some baby ducks at the pond.
Note to mother ducks: Are you on crack!?! It is October! The hawks thank you.
