This week we started running again...
We took the dog and then we all flopped over.
I worked too hard and too long and missed the kids bedtimes for being in the clean-room.
This picture I took for Instagram.
There was rain and there were spectacular ominous skies.
There was the teacher meet and greet for the families and staff of Twin Ridge Elementary.
I did something smart this year. As you can see Kiernan's desk is pretty much covered by a big box.
At the end of last year the school offered (for 28 bucks) to gather all the school supplies for us.
This was a reasonable price and a very simple way to eliminate some pre-school scrambling.
Kiernan seemed really excited about the new year and poor Megan (a month too young for pre-K) seemed so jealous.
Kiernan's teacher seemed a little nervous (projection?).
That worried me a bit.
There are more kids in his class than last year.
That worried a bit.
He only has 3 other kids from his Kindergarten class.
That worried me a bit.
I am a worrier, have you noticed?
After we left the school we went to the nature center.
He was grumpy. That is unlike him.
We mostly had a good time.
I loved this art from within the girls bathroom.
Then I went to work and didn't get to put Kiernan to bed.
So I sat alone with my worry without the reassurance of our nighttime routine.
I went for walks and worked on my Fitbit step count.
It sort of sucked.
Over the weekend we tried to do small safe home things in preparation for the return to school.
Megan had a tea party and discovered (because I was out of decaf black tea) that she loves green tea.
We took Pax for a long walk and the dog park.
We discovered that she still needs a lot of work especially when it comes to paying attention to commands outside of the house.
We will keep up the work.
The kids got a fuzzy white caterpillar and brought it home to feed in a mason jar.
It got out of the jar...
I looked all over the place for it.
I found it the next morning in the hash browns I had just fried for breakfast.
Apparently it had climbed up into the hood over the stove.
Farewell Fuzzy we hardly knew ye.
ick
I decided to take Kiernan out for some 1 on 1 time.
We went to the library and to Chipotle and to Rita's.
We went to the Park and had a walk.
I felt much better about the world there after.
So much better that I made gazpacho.
It was very good.
I also made my first truly bad batch of Pad Thai.
Oh boy was it bad.
My Pad Thai is usually quite edible.
Not this time.
Then it was Monday morning.
Kiernan was up and dressed by 6:30.
He was so happy and excited about the day.
(need I mention that this high expectation worried me?)
When he got home he said that his day was meh.
After a few rounds of Minecraft he said the day was good.
I did a ton of beginning of the school year paperwork.
Kiernan is completely unhelpful when asked about school.
His uninterested in the conversation and he doesn't really communicate well about things not shared.
there is a lot of " What did you do today?" answered by "Oh you know... stuff".
ha
Check out this cutie girl at the Matsuri festival!
